NASCAR race results from Richmond Raceway

Today, the race weekend comes to a close in Richmond, Virginia. The 0.75-mile oval of Richmond Raceway is set to host the Federated Auto Parts 400.

Richmond Race
Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 70 (1-70 / 400)

Green flag, they run side by side into turn one. Chastain noses ahead via the outside lane off turn two. Larson tucks under his bumper to hold 2nd.

Lap 4, Tyler Reddick spins, caution.

Green, Chastain drives it deep to the inside and he’s clear into turn one.

Lap 25, Christopher Bell has moved to the top lane of the race track, all the way around. He runs 11th but he’s the fastest car on the track.

Lap 35, most of the drivers who were running the top have now moved back to the bottom. The pace has fallen off for those cars.

2 to go in stage one, Hamlin is closing quickly on Chastain in the battle for the stage win. He trails by two car lengths.

Ross Chastain holds him off to win stage one at Richmond Raceway!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 160 (71-230 / 400)

Green flag on stage two, Chastain blocks Hamlin into turn one. With the narrow entry, Hamlin misses the bottom. He skates up the bank and into Larson but they all continue. Logano takes over 2nd.

Lap 80, Logano has a run off turn four. He works to the right rear of Chastain. A lap later, Logano completes the pass on the outside to take the race lead.

Lap 124, Logano pits from the race lead. Larson runs three wide with lap traffic and he pits on the next lap.

Logano quickly cycles back to the lead, Larson trails by 3 seconds.

Lap 157, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is the last car to hit the pit lane. He’s the only car on a one stop strategy during this stage. However, he misses the entrance to the pit lane and he clips Martin Truex Jr. in the process.

Pit Penalty: Now, Stenhouse has been handed a penalty for speeding on the pit lane.

Lap 172

Lap 172, Logano pits from the lead to begin the second green flag cycle in this stage. He quickly cycles back to the race lead as the whole field dives for the pits. Larson trails by 2.5 seconds.

Lap 183, Ty Gibbs hits the pit lane under green. The team lifts the hood as smoke billows out. Gibbs heads behind the wall.

Lap 220, Martin Truex Jr passes race leader Joey Logano. Truex is 14th and back on the lead lap.

Laps: 170 (231-400 / 400)

Logano leads the field to the pit lane but Larson wins the race to the pit exit!

Green flag on stage three, Larson leads Logano off turn two. Kyle Busch is around in turn three with help from Ross Chastain. Eric Jones is collected and the caution is out.

Green, Larson and Logano ran side by side into turn one. Logano wins the race off turn two via the outside lane.

Lap 251, Christopher Bell spins on his own off turn four, caution.

Blaney, Truex Jr., Wallace, Hamlin, Byron and others head for the pit lane. Hamlin restarts 11th with slightly fresher tires than the leaders.

Green, Logano leads as Larson and Briscoe run side by side for 2nd. Briscoe misses the bottom and he doors Larson. They remain side by side for 2nd. Hamlin takes the field four wide behind them as he carves through on fresh tires. Larson holds 2nd.

Lap 261, Hamlin runs three wide with Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott for 7th, Hamlin wins the battle.

Lap 279, Hamlin tags the bumper of Larson. Larson chases it up the bank and Hamlin moves to 5th.

Lap 290, Kevin Harvick is running down the bumper of leader Joey Logano. Pit stops are upcoming.

Lap 295

Lap 295, Larson hits the pits to begin another green flag pit cycle. Logano pits from the lead a lap later.

Lap 305, Hamlin pits from the lead. Logano cycles back to the lead but Hamlin now has 10 laps fresher tires than most of the field.

Lap 307, Chase Briscoe hits the pit lane with a fire, no caution. The crew puts it out and he rejoins the race.

75 to go, Harvick is all over Logano’s bumper in the battle for the lead. Logano is glued to the bottom as Harvick runs the middle.

67 to go, Harvick drives it deep into the corner on the outside. Harvick gets to his right rear. Harvick takes the lead away!

60 to go

60 to go, Harvick pits under green for what could be the final stop. Logano follows a lap later.

49, Hamlin and Bell are the last cars to pit. Harvick cycles back to the lead. Buescher trails by 1 second.

15 to go, Harvick leads Buescher by 1.5 seconds. Bell runs 3rd with 12 laps on fresher tires.

5 to go, Bell dives inside of Buescher and quickly takes 2nd away. Harvick leads Bell by 1.7 seconds.

2 to go, Bell has closed the gap to 0.8 seconds.

1 to go, Harvick leads Bell by five car lengths.

Kevin Harvick holds him off and wins at Richmond Raceway!
