A criminal case against Michelle Branch has been dismissed by prosecutors in the wake of her arrest earlier this month in connection with domestic assault against her estranged spouse Patrick Carney.
The case against the 39-year-old singer-songwriter was dismissed at the state’s request, TMZ reported after reviewing legal documents in the case.
It was not immediately clear why authorities sought to drop the case against the Sedona, Arizona-born musical artist.

Branch earlier this month filed for divorce from Carney, 42, after she was arrested for domestic abuse and announced their separation.
TMZ reported that Branch filed the divorce documents in Tennessee earlier this month and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their separation.
Branch, who shares two children with Carney, has asked for child support and custody but has requested Patrick have time with their children.
The former couple shares a son Rhys, four, and a daughter Willie, six months. She also wants her ex to pay for her legal fees.
Branch was arrested for domestic abuse on August 11 after she allegedly slapped her husband Patrick Carney at a home in Nashville, Tenn.
Branch was brought into the police station around 4 am, Davidson County Sheriff’s Department told DailyMail.com. Branch was held on $1,000 bail that was later paid.

The musicians are also required to complete a parenting court ‘which the judge orders in all cases out of that specific court,’ writes TMZ.
Branch announced her split from Carney on Thursday, and the night before Branch allegedly tweeted that Carney had cheated on her, according to TMZ. The tweet no longer appears on her account.
She was arrested on August 11 after she allegedly slapped her husband. Branch was arrested around 3 am in Nashville, Tenn. after the police received a call of a potential domestic disturbance, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department told DailyMail.com.
The Everywhere singer had admitted to slapping the Black Keys drummer about two times in the face before the police arrived. She was held on $1,000 bail and was later released since she was breastfeeding her six-month old daughter, Willie Paquet Carney.
In her mugshot, Branch can be seen with a red stain birthmark under her eye which she is known for often covering up.
No visible injuries were seen on Carney, according to TMZ.
The duo are pictured above with their son, Rhys, before the birth of their daughter in February 2022. The couple suffered a miscarriage in 2020.
Branch was 18 years old when her music career took off. She quickly rose to fame when she released her debut album The Spirit Room in August 2001, which featured her first hits, Everywhere, All You Wanted and Goodbye to You.
Carney joined in on Branch’s success when he produced her 2017 album Hopeless Romantic and they started dating while putting the album together.
Branch previously said she had the rug ‘completely pulled out from underneath’ her in a statement announcing her split from Carney, and obtained by People.
‘To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family. The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward,’ she said in her statement. ‘With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.’
Michelle met Patrick, a music producer and drummer for The Black Keys, during a Grammy party in 2015. Shortly after the duo started dating before welcoming a son in August 2018, Rhys James.
The two tied the knot in April 2019 and welcomed their second child in February 2022 after suffering a miscarriage in 2020.
Before her relationship with Carney, Michelle was married to bassist Teddy Landau. They share 17-year-old daughter Owen Isabelle Landau.
Landau was a bass player in Branch’s band before the two married in 2004. The singer separated from Landau in 2014 with the divorce finalized in 2015, the same year she met Carney at a Grammy party.

After releasing the Spirit Room in 2001 – which featured her hits, Everywhere, All You Wanted and Goodbye to You – Branch continued to strive in her career.
She also released Hotel Paper in 2003 and the country album Stand Still, Look Pretty as part of the duo The Wreckers with Jessica Harp.
Branch also released the 2010 EP Everything Comes and Goes and the 2017 album Hopeless Romantic.
Her next album, The Trouble With Fever, is set for release on September 16, 2022.
Michelle has received Grammy recognition for her work over the years.
She won a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for her 2003 track with Santana, The Game Of Love. In total, Michelle has received four Grammy nods, including her win for The Game Of Love.
