Tata Motors is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the much-awaited Sierra.ev, which is expected to go on sale in May 2026. The electric SUV will arrive a few months after the launch of its ICE counterpart, whose sales have already crossed 20,000 units within about four months. Here’s a quick look at what we can expect from the model.

Tata Sierra EV: what to expect

The Sierra.ev will be positioned as a mid-size electric SUV, slotting below the Tata Harrier EV and possibly above the Curve.ev in the company’s portfolio. In the Indian market, it is expected to compete with models like Maruti E Vitara and Mahindra BE6.In terms of design, the Sierra.ev will closely mirror the ICE version, retaining its silhouette, large panoramic rear glass area and overall stance. However, Tata will introduce EV-specific elements to differentiate it such as a different EV-like front fascia, different alloy wheels and more. Inside, the cabin layout is likely to be shared with the petrol and diesel versions. The lower variants are expected to have dual displays, while the higher variants may get a triple-screen setup. The feature list is expected to be extensive, including a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, powered tailgate, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and connected car technology are also likely to be part of the package.

    Tata Sierra EV: Expected powertrain

Under the skin, the Sierra.ev is expected to be offered with two battery pack options, possibly around 55 kWh and 65 kWh. There is also a possibility of a larger battery pack, possibly similar to the 75 kWh unit seen on Harrier.ev, especially as rivals like the Mahindra BE 6 offer larger battery capacities.Performance-wise, Tata is expected to offer both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The higher variants may feature a dual-motor setup similar to the QWD system on the Harrier.ev, which will give the Sierra.ev an advantage over many competitors that currently lack AWD options.Additionally, Tata may offer a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model with Sierra.ev. This will allow buyers to reduce upfront costs by opting for a battery subscription plan instead of purchasing batteries directly.
