Bharat Taxi has been launched in India as a government-backed alternative to established ride-hailing platforms like Ola, Uber and Rapido, with a focus on driver ownership and fair earnings. The app is supported by the Ministry of Cooperation and operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited.
Bharat Taxi App: Key Details to Know
This app is available on both Android and iOS. In its initial phase, Bharat Taxi follows a zero-commission structure, whereby 100 percent of ride payments go directly to drivers, known as Sarathi on the platform. Unlike many existing platforms, Bharat Taxi plans to avoid surge pricing. At a later stage, the co-operative society may retain nominal fees. According to the platform, this amount will not work like traditional commission but will be redistributed to drivers through incentives and welfare measures.
Similar to other ride-hailing apps, Bharat Taxi integrates with public transportation services like Metro, enabling users to plan multi-modal trips through a single application. The platform also plans to launch dedicated pickup and drop zones at airports, with expansion to other transportation hubs in the future. The app offers features like emergency contact alerts, access to the security team, and in-app sirens. The assistance centers are currently operational across seven major locations in Delhi, providing quick assistance, verified ride data and on-ground driver assistance. As part of its women empowerment efforts, initiatives like “Bike Didi” have been launched, with over 150 women drivers having already joined the platform. Additionally, more than three lakh drivers have joined Bharat Taxi, more than one lakh users are registered, and more than 10,000 rides are being completed daily in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat.
