Opal Suchata Chuangsri, popularly known simply as Opal, was born on September 20, 2003, in Phuket, Thailand. She grew up in a family deeply rooted in the hospitality industry—her parents are hoteliers—giving her early exposure to people, cultures, and the art of service.
From a young age, Opal displayed an innate curiosity about the world, languages, and international affairs. She is trilingual, fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese, which would later become a strong asset in her international pageant journey.
Education and Interests

Opal’s academic journey reflects her global mindset. She attended Triam Udom Suksa School in Bangkok, focusing on Chinese studies. Currently, she is pursuing a degree in Political Science with a major in International Relations at Thammasat University.
Alongside her academic ambitions, Opal is passionate about psychology and anthropology — fields she says complement her interest in international affairs and understanding human behavior. She is also musically gifted, with a quirky talent: she plays the ukulele backwards. Beyond music, her love for animals is well-known; she cares for several pet dogs and cats.
A Turning Point: Health & Advocacy
Perhaps one of the most defining moments of Opal’s life came at age 16, when she discovered a benign lump in her breast. The experience was emotionally and physically challenging, but it also ignited a powerful purpose in her: after undergoing surgery to remove the lump, she founded the “Opal For Her” campaign.
Through this initiative, she has worked to spread awareness about breast health, early detection, and women’s empowerment. She partnered with respected healthcare organizations such as the National Cancer Institute and the Foundation for Cancer Care at Siriraj Hospital in Thailand to provide education and resources for women. Her campaign eventually became her official “Beauty With a Purpose” project when she competed in Miss World, underscoring her belief that true beauty comes with responsibility.
Pageantry Journey
Opal’s journey into beauty pageants began in 2021, when she took part in Miss Rattanakosin, one of Thailand’s local pageants. Her grace, poise, and commitment quickly made her a name to watch. In 2022, she competed in Miss Universe Thailand, initially finishing as a third runner-up; later, she was promoted to second runner-up.
Her major breakthrough came in 2024, when she won Miss Universe Thailand and represented the country at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico City. There, she finished as the third runner-up and also earned the Voice for Change – Silver Award, recognizing her advocacy and social impact. However, her Miss Universe journey took a controversial turn: her runner-up title was later revoked because she accepted the Miss World Thailand 2025 title before completing her 12-month reign with Miss Universe Thailand.
In April 2025, Opal was crowned Miss World Thailand 2025, which secured her berth to compete at the 72nd Miss World pageant.
Crowning Glory: Miss World 2025
The grand finale of Miss World 2025 was held on May 31, 2025, at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Khaleej Times Opal competed against 108 contestants from around the globe and emerged victorious, making history as the first Thai woman ever to win the Miss World crown.
She was crowned by the outgoing Miss World 2024, Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic. At the ceremony, she wore a white gown adorned with opal-like florals, designed to symbolize healing, resilience, and transformation — a tribute to her “Opal For Her” journey.

Her victory was celebrated across Thailand and the world, recognizing not only her beauty but her depth of character, intelligence, and commitment to social causes.
Personality, Vision & Impact
Opal’s personal philosophy is deeply rooted in compassion and purpose. According to her interviews, she defines success not just as personal achievement, but as improving lives around her. “To know that one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded” — words she often refers to as her guiding motto.
As Miss World, she aspires beyond the stage. Her academic grounding in international relations fuels her ambition to become a diplomat or ambassador, leveraging her title and platform to promote cultural understanding and global cooperation.
Her “Opal For Her” campaign continues to be central to her mission. She plans to scale it, aiming to reach more young women, especially in rural and underprivileged communities, with education about breast health and access to screening.
Beyond advocacy, she also encourages the preservation of Thai heritage. According to reports, she has worked with the Thai government to promote traditional textiles and crafts, presenting herself not only as a beauty queen but as a cultural ambassador.
She also brings a genuine warmth in her public persona: her love for animals, her playful musical talent (ukulele), and her multilingual communication style make her relatable and inspiring to many.
Legacy & Significance
Opal Suchata Chuangsri’s crowning as Miss World 2025 is more than a personal milestone — it is a cultural moment for Thailand. Her win marks the first-ever Miss World crown for her country, boosting national pride and spotlighting the country’s presence on the international stage.
Her story resonates beyond pageantry: a young woman who turned a personal health struggle into a powerful advocacy project; a student balancing academics, art, and public service; a global-minded citizen who connects local roots with a vision for global good.
As Miss World, Opal has the potential to leave a meaningful legacy — not just as a beauty queen, but as a changemaker, a health advocate, and a bridge between cultures.
