Audi e-tron, Q8 e-tron recalled: Problem and backup system explained

Audi has announced the recall of select electric cars in India due to a possible problem with the braking system. The recall covers the Audi e-tron, Audi e-tron Sportback, Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback. These vehicles were manufactured between February 2, 2018 and June 11, 2024.According to official information, a total of 207 units have been affected in the Indian market. The company has not shared the model-wise breakdown of the recalled vehicles. The problem is related to a specific component in the braking system. Audi has recognized that the bolted connection to the brake servo push rod in these models may not fully meet technical specifications. Over time, this connection can slowly loosen, which can affect the mechanical link between the brake pedal and brake servo. If this connection becomes weak, the transfer of force from the brake pedal to the braking system may not function as intended. In rare cases, if the connection becomes completely loose, the primary braking link may no longer be secure.

Audi has equipped these vehicles with backup safety systems. In such a scenario, the driver can activate a controlled emergency braking function by pressing the electromechanical parking brake button on the center console. This causes the vehicle to slow down and stop safely. The recall has been initiated as a precautionary measure to rectify the problem and ensure that all affected vehicles continue to meet the brand’s safety standards.Stay connected to TOI Auto for latest updates on the automotive sector and follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and Xpress.
