Hyundai Motor India has entered a new chapter with Tarun Garg officially taking charge as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer from January 1, 2026. His appointment is historic, as he becomes the first Indian national to lead Hyundai’s Indian subsidiary since its inception nearly three decades ago.With over 32 years of experience in the automotive industry, Garg brings to his new role a deep understanding of sales, marketing, distribution, financial management and product strategy. His promotion to the top role is being seen as a vote of confidence in the Indian leadership by Hyundai Motor Group at a time when the market is playing a key role in the company’s future growth plans.Under Garg’s leadership, Hyundai Motor India will focus on future-ready mobility solutions, customer-centric operations and ‘Make in India’ initiatives. The company has already outlined an ambitious investment roadmap of Rs 45,000 crore by FY2030, which aims to accelerate electric vehicles, hybrid technologies, connected mobility and related innovations while strengthening local manufacturing and exports.
Garg has been closely associated with the recent growth story of Hyundai Motor India. During his previous roles as Head of Sales, Service and Marketing and later as Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, the company recorded its highest sales for three consecutive years and achieved record profitability and EBITDA margins. He also played a key role in the successful execution of Hyundai Motor India’s IPO in 2024.Beyond business performance, Garg is known for his people-first approach. He has supported initiatives like ‘Samarth by Hyundai’, which focuses on accessibility and awareness for people with disabilities.
