Do you have an EV? Follow these simple habits to protect your battery

The battery is the heart of an electric vehicle, and how it is used and maintained plays a major role in long-term performance. As more drivers are switching to electric mobility, proper battery care has become an important part of ownership. Following a few simple habits can help maintain efficiency and ensure that the battery continues to perform well for years. -One of the key things that EV owners should keep in mind is to avoid charging up to 100 percent frequently. Most electric vehicles come with battery management systems that prevent excessive charging and discharging, but regularly keeping the battery fully charged can affect long-term health. Experts suggest keeping the battery within the medium charge range rather than always aiming for a full charge, as this helps improve overall battery life and performance. -Charging habits also play an important role. Fast charging can be useful when time is limited, especially during long trips, but relying on it too often can put extra strain on the battery. High-speed charging produces more heat, which can affect battery health over time. For everyday use, slow or standard charging methods are generally considered better to keep the battery safe.

-EV owners who do not use their vehicles regularly should pay special attention to battery levels during storage. Leaving the battery fully charged or completely drained for extended periods of time can cause rapid degradation. A practical approach is to maintain the charge in a mid-range window, typically between 25 percent and 75 percent, to help protect the battery’s condition. For longer parking periods, it is often recommended to maintain the charge level closer to 50 percent. -Temperature also affects the performance of the battery. Very hot or extremely cold conditions can reduce efficiency and affect long-term durability. Parking the vehicle in shady or covered areas during hot weather can help reduce heat exposure, while avoiding extremely cold conditions when possible can also be beneficial. -Keeping the vehicle’s software updated is another simple but important step. Manufacturers often release updates that improve battery management and overall efficiency. Installing these updates ensures that the system continues to work as expected. -Most modern electric vehicles also offer tools or mobile apps that allow owners to monitor battery health. Checking these indicators regularly can help detect potential problems early and ensure that the battery continues to operate reliably.
